Update From The Studio

North 40 has recorded all of the songs for our upcoming first album and consider this amazing process a major milestone in the planting of fence posts around our North 40 Country! Paige and I have many recorded songs to sift through to put on our CD that will form a picture of who North 40 is. Hopefully our listeners will find our album to be a solid representation of the many layers of two grown women with different backgrounds and experiences yet with similar convictions, ideals and sensibilities in how we deal with and honor where we have been and where we are headed.

After much erasing and banging our heads against the supposed "Hit Song" wall, we came to a decision to write what we know and experiment past our comfort zone while writing any and all songs for North 40. If it was easy everyone would be doing it and then there are those that make writing a "Hit Song" look so damn effortless!

Coming up with a song idea is a magic combination between cerebral stirrings, dreams mixed with an actual act and/or experience we lived through ourselves or goings on of someone we know or know of. Then comes the turning out and sifting through all of the crazy ideas to finally, after much laughter or tears, come up with something of a hook line to build the song around that is understandable yet simple and interesting enough to try to emote with an instrumental groove. Most ideas are crap, hysterical, too fake or too real. Paige can attest that I am a wanderer that has to be reeled in to get back on track again every time. But when it's right we know it and we have been right many times and are very proud of what we create together in this North 40 skin as songwriters!
